Juan Pablo Cáceres is a Spanish teacher, Middle School Advisor and Grade 7 Coordinator at The Hamlin School for Girls in San Francisco, and originally hails from Concepcion, Chile. He has taught for more than 16 years, first focused on English as a Second Language and now Spanish as a Second Language. He holds a Bachelor’s in Education and Foreign Language teaching from Universidad San Sebastian in Chile. Currently, he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics in Spanish as a Second Language and a Master’s in Applied Linguistics in English as a Second Language.
Juan Pablo has taught in Chile, the United Kingdom, and the United States (Virginia and Washington, DC before moving to the Bay Area in 2019). He lives in San Francisco, is married (to Larry Roadcap) and has twin daughters Louise and Olivia Roadcap.
When he is not teaching, he enjoys riding his bike with his family along different parks in the Bay Area, cooking and getting together with friends.
Ximena Bervejillo is the Lower School Spanish Teacher at The Hamlin School for Girls in San Francisco, California. She was born and raised in Uruguay, South America, to a very large family of art and music lovers. She has been teaching foreign languages since 1993, when she started teaching German in private and public schools in Montevideo, Uruguay. In 2002 Ximena moved to California with her whole family to start teaching Spanish and German at a Waldorf school in Marin County.
Since then, she has taught in four different private schools in the Bay Area and has been an Evaluator and Mentor of World Language Teachers as well. Ximena loves teaching younger students and brings a lot of enthusiasm and passion to her classes, combining language teaching with music, culture, and technology. Outside of work, Ximena enjoys singing, cooking, hiking, weaving and spending time with family and friends.
Flora Mugambi-Mutunga is the Director of Community Building and Inclusion and a member of the Senior Leadership Team at the Town School for Boys, San Francisco, CA. She was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya and immigrated to the US, where she received a BA and an M.Ed from South Western Oklahoma State University. She earned multiple certificates in School Management and Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Business School. Passionate about early childhood education, she spent several years working as a Preschool Director and spent many years in early childhood education and school administration.
Flora has a commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to promote diversity in all its forms, social justice, global education, and service learning. She partners with San Francisco Equity Leaders in independent schools and provides a range of workshops for educators through the California Teacher Development Collaborative. Flora has served on multiple CAIS (California Association of Independent Schools) Accreditation teams and recently collaborated with Daycroft School in Michigan on their next Strategic Plan. She serves as the Senior Community and Education Consultant with Teach With Africa-an organization empowering students and teachers in a reciprocal exchange of teaching and learning in South Africa and in the United States. Flora is a Board Member at Horizons-San Francisco Friends School and an incoming Trustee at The Hamlin School for Girls in San Francisco, CA.
Flora has a large family dispersed around the world and resides in San Francisco, CA with her husband David and 8-year-old daughter, Nzilani. She is an aunt to nieces and nephews on three continents and counting! She enjoys spending time with family, Zumba, reading and a good cup of masala chai.
Jessica Boualavong is the Lower School Science, STEM, and Technology Integration teacher at Town School for Boys in San Francisco, California. Jessica is a science teacher, tea drinker, knitter, food lover, explorer, gamer, maker, and nature lover. She lives in beautiful San Francisco with her husband Adrian, and their kittens: Ada Lovelace and Marie Curie. She is often found travelling around National Parks, documenting her classroom and adventures, testing out new technologies, or knitting with friends.
Since 2016, Jessica has been a facilitator and convener of the Asian American Pacific Islander affinity group at the National Association of Independent School Association’s annual People of Color Conference. She serves on the advisory board for the California Academy of Sciences. She was a teaching fellow for Teach with Africa in 2012, at LEAP 2 in Capetown, South Africa.
Jessica Boualavong holds a BA in Physiology and Neurobiology from the University of Maryland, an MA in STEM Curriculum and Instruction from Adams State University (Colorado), and a STEM Leadership certificate from NASA.
Danielle Shulkin is the Upper School Learning Specialist at the Town School for Boys in San Francisco, California. Originally from Massachusetts, she moved to San Francisco after being evacuated from the Peace Corps due to Covid-19. During her time in the Peace Corps, Danielle served as a volunteer in a rural, indigenous community in Panama where she worked with the school’s English teachers, taught a community English course, and did youth development work in schools across the country.
Danielle began her career as a Special Education teacher in New York City as part of the New York City Teaching Fellows. It was during this time that she discovered her passion for working with students with special needs and advocating for improved access to inclusive education. She hopes to continue working to increase educational opportunities for people with disabilities around the world and is currently volunteering with the Peace Corps Virtual Service Pilot Program and the Ministry of Education in Panama to make the country’s English curriculum more inclusive and train English teachers in differentiation techniques, in order to pursue this goal.
Danielle holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Linguistics from the College of William & Mary and a Master’s degree in Special Education from St. John’s University. When she’s not working, Danielle enjoys spending time outdoors, singing, dancing, and exploring the west coast.
Hilary McArthur is a 7/8 Math Teacher at Town School For Boys and the 8th-grade team lead in San Francisco, California. Over her years at Town, she has been a 7th-grade advisor, the 7th-grade Team Lead, an 8th-grade advisor, 7/8 Service Learning Coordinator, Cobb School Reading Buddies Elective Teacher and Mathlete Coach. Before Town, Hilary taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Pre-Calculus at Squaw Valley Academy in Olympic Valley, California. Prior to classroom teaching, Hilary was an Outward Bound Wilderness Instructor in Florida for at-risk and adjudicated youth and led standard population courses in Maine, Utah, and Colorado. Leading up to that, she led an Outward Scholarship Program at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown, New York, where she also facilitated climbing programs and ropes courses for students and adults. Hilary got her start in education when she led Outdoor Education courses at Colgate University for Colgate students in Rock Climbing, Caving, Backpacking, Kayak-rolling and Canoeing.
Hilary has a BA from Colgate University in New York. She also holds an MA in Education and a Teaching Credential in Mathematics, both from San Francisco State University. Hilary lives near the Ocean in Pacifica, California with her partner Jason (also a 7/8 math teacher), her 14-year-old son Kai, her 12-year-old daughter Aleah, and her 3-year-old dog Jude. Hilary enjoys surfing, hiking, biking, skiing, running, listening to audiobooks, travelling, backpacking, camping, playing sports, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Rachel Hollister is a Head Kindergarten Teacher at Town School for Boys in San Francisco, California. She grew up in San Francisco and was drawn to teaching from an early age. Throughout high school, Rachel volunteered at schools in the bay area, helped her mother who was also a teacher and acquired a lot of experience with children through babysitting. She attended the University of San Diego and knew from the beginning that she wanted to be a teacher. After graduating from college and receiving her teaching credential from the University of San Francisco, Rachel moved to Washington D.C. where she taught second grade for 3 years. Following that, she moved back to San Francisco to start a family and continued her career working in a preschool while raising her four children. Throughout those years, Rachel volunteered at Safe and Sound (an organization that worked to prevent child abuse), had many volunteer roles at Town School for Boys, including being a trustee, and volunteered as a co-director at Convent of the Sacred Heart High School.
Rachel’s three boys attended Town School for Boys and her love of the school drew her to seek out a teaching position. She has been happily teaching at the school for eight years. Rachel loves inspiring children, creating joy throughout their day, and working with parents and other faculty members. In her free time, she enjoys cooking with her family, exercising, reading, and throwing parties.
